Tree swallows

This is a pair of male tree swallows. This is another photo from Rockefeller State Park in May 2020. They were getting quite territorial over this nesting box. This is a good example of how the right cropping can make or break a picture. Originally I kept it quite distant to include the whole nesting box, but then some of the impact of the birds “yelling’ at each other was lost to distance. Then I cropped it quite close to really focus on the birds, but the quality of the image was lost. The shot you see here is a compromise between the two extremes, showing some of the nesting box, but not so cropped that the birds become blurry.
