This is a male cardinal. I took this in December 2020, during our first big snowfall this winter. I always get a lot of activity at my bird feeders on snowy days. I would say that the cardinal in snow is one of my most sought-after images – probably the one I have sold the most of, in terms of notecards and prints. A lot of people think that a visit from a cardinal symbolizes a visit from a deceased loved one. I have had several requests for pictures like this as bereavement gifts.
Here’s the same cardinal, next to a dark-eyed junco.
